Our Polish Heritage - Who was Nicolaus Copernicus?

Copernicus

Nicolaus Copernicus (1473 - 1543) was Polish astronomer and mathematician who was a proponent of the view of an Earth in daily motion about its axis and in yearly motion around a stationary sun.

“Nicolaus Copernicus” is the Latin version of the famous astronomer’s name which he chose later in his life. The original form of his name was Mikolaj Kopernik or Nicolaus Koppernigk.
